I’ve always wanted to read more classics and I think a read-a-long is a good way to get started because you get to read what others think about the work being read. So I was very delighted when I was wandering over at A Room of One’s Own and found that there is a read-a-long for Middlemarch over at dovegreyreader scribbles. I liked the way the reading plan is structured because it follows the publication date of each of the books of Middlemarch (the novel was serialized and released in eight parts from 1871-1872). So its like reading the novel as it was back then. The read-a-long starts this month and continues til December 2012.
I also like it because it gives you time to read other books or read some more about George Eliot. I intend to read other books since the books were published months apart and also read more about George Eliot. I might also read a few of her other works. I really hope I could keep up.
I recently purchased the Oxford World’s Classic version of Middlemarch. I have read the Introduction and found George Eliot a very interesting person. She is a very inspiring person to read about just based on the amount of knowledge she possess on various subjects. I’m also very impressed at the number of languages she knows and by the fact that she learned it all by herself. It is very inspiring.
I also got a few insights into the world of Middlemarch and I am very excited to get started. I’m definitely posting my thoughts on the book and anything that I find that warrants to be shared. :)
